A couple of days back, Sony slashed prices of it’s PS3 gaming console by $100 in the US. Microsoft is now following suit, having announced a price cut of $20 on it’s HD DVD Player that it offers as an add-on accessory along with the Xbox 360. With the price cut, the Xbox 360 HD DVD Player will now sell in the US for $179 instead of the earlier $199 beginning August 1.
According to Jeff Bell, vice president of Microsoft, the $20 price cut helps in continuing to make the Xbox 360 HD DVD Player one of the most affordable ways to enjoy high definition films. The price cut is largely being seen as a move against rival Sony, which also offers a Blu-ray Disc player along with it’s PS3 gaming console, whose prices (USA) were slashed recently.Additionally, Microsoft is offering a free bundle of five HD DVD movies for those buying the Xbox 360 HD DVD Player between August 1 and September 30. Customers will be able to choose from among a catalog of 15 movies.
