‘Your video card or drivers are not compatible with Media Center’ error

 Problem:-

When I start Media Center 2005  I get this message:-

Your video card or drivers are not compatible with Media Center

Resolution:-

To stop this error one need to have a graphic card which is DirectX 9.0C compliant.Visit the manufacturer’s site to download and install the latest driver. Also check and update the decoder installed.

Registry tweak to stop the error message:-

To do this:-

Start>Run>Regedit>OK

Locate the following registry location:-

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Display Settings

Here you have to add two DWORD keys  DisableDxCheck and DisableDx9CapsCheck having value 1 for both the keys.

Drawback of this registry edit:-

it will just stop the error message appearing but the black screen during watching TV will continue.

So the ultimate soution is to acquire a DirectX 9.0C  compatible graphic card.

  1. Problem: “your video card or drivers are not compatible with media center”
Solution: I had installed an old game on my media center and I belive that process turned off the Direct3d Accelleration. Once I enabled this (start run dxdiag, display tab) the Media Center ran just fine again.
