Windows Messenger Error In Windows Media Center

The Problem:-Every time you start Windows Media Center you get the following error:-

”Messenger Failure – You must install Windows Messenger…”

Why is it happening:-

It’s happening due to installation of security update described here:-

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946648

Resolution:-

1]Uninstall Security update KB 946648 from Add/Remove items in Control Panel.

2]Open Windows Media Center>Setting>Messenger>Uncheck the box against  ‘Allow instant messages within Media Center’

3]Reinstall the Security Update.

Resolution via Registry Tweaking:-

To do this:-

Open Notepad and copy and paste the following:-

 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\ehshell.exe]

“AllowMessengerExecHandleFailure”=dword:00000001

Now save the above as a reg file.

Finally launch this .reg file to execute.
