Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book take a long time to wake

Problem:

Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book take a long time to wake. The following items in Device Manager marked by yellow exclamation points:

  • Surface Embedded Controller Firmware
  • Surface Management Engine
  • Surface System Aggregator Firmware
  • Surface UEFI

Resolution:

This is happening since installing February update.

To fix this problem, remove the failed firmware installation from Device Manager, and then manually reapply the latest firmware. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Download the .msi file that contains the latest device firmware from the following Microsoft Download Center website.Surface Pro 4

  2. For each item that’s listed in Device Manager as a failed device, uninstall the driver, and delete the driver files when you’re prompted. Don’t restart the computer yet.
  3. Run the .msi file that you downloaded in step 1 to reapply the latest device firmware.
  4. Restart the computer.

After you complete these steps, you should see the following firmware versions listed in Device Manager.

Surface Pro 4

  • Surface Embedded Controller Firmware: version 103.899.256.0
  • Surface Management Engine: version 11.0.0.1202
  • Surface System Aggregator Firmware: version 103.1081.260.0
  • Surface UEFI: version 104.1085.768.0

Surface Book

  • Surface Embedded Controller Firmware: version 88.899.256.0
  • Surface Management Engine: version 11.0.0.1202
  • Surface System Aggregator Firmware: version 88.1081.257.0
  • Surface UEFI: version 88.1085.768.0
