Kinect Gesture Data Set

“The Microsoft Research Cambridge-12 Kinect gesture data set consists of sequences of human movements, represented as body-part locations, and the associated gesture to be recognized by the system. The data set includes 594 sequences and 719,359 frames—approximately six hours and 40 minutes—collected from 30 people performing 12 gestures. In total, there are 6,244 gesture instances. The motion files contain tracks of 20 joints estimated using the Kinect Pose Estimation pipeline. The body poses are captured at a sample rate of 30Hz with an accuracy of about two centimeters in joint positions.”

What’s New In Microsoft Answers 2.4

It’s a great pleasure for me to help users in Microsoft Answers forum.I not only contribute here but learn a lot from the forum.If you wish to learn Microsoft technologies then it’s the best place to start.

Microsoft Answers will release an update on 10 July.There will be number of changes according to the article of  EmilyF,Forum Moderator.

————————

New Features:-

Advanced User Options

New features for advanced or “power” users have been developed in direct response to popular demand and subsequent usability studies conducted with the Answers community. These new advanced user options provide the added ability to refine the list of threads that you are most interested in reading and minimize the amount of navigating needed to review and reply to those threads.

* Thread list search filters

New filters allow all advanced users to search for threads that contain no replies, have Me Too votes, contain no replies marked as helpful, or fall within a certain timeframe. These filters are multi-select, appear in addition to any moderator filters you might have, and should be savable queries when set as a favorite through your browser.

* Inline thread preview

New inline thread preview will enable you to open and close preview versions of a thread without leaving the thread list. To open thread preview, simply click the chevron to the left of the thread name. The full question, up to two answers, and up to five recent replies will appear, along with the option to reply or open the full version of the thread. Click the chevron again to close the preview.

Important: To make the advanced thread list search filters and inline thread preview described above part of your Answers UI, you will need to activate them through your user profile.

1. Open your profile.

2. Click Edit Profile.

3. Under Advanced user options, select Show advanced search filters to use the thread list filters.

4. Under Thread Preview, select Show thread preview in thread list to the inline preview and select the number of replies to display. The default is five.

5. Click Update.

The Thread Page

When you open a thread, you’ll notice that the thread page layout has been redesigned to help make it easier to see the question and the answer(s). The contributor information is moved in line with the question, as are the response options. The related resources have moved from the bottom of the page to the right side. We didn’t add or remove anything on the thread page, just moved things around.

Top Navigation

The top navigation bar is changing from a horizontal display to a vertical drop-down list. We’ve run out of room in some languages, which necessitated the change.

Other Changes

The Answers 2.4 update includes a few other changes to better align some products and versions in the forums.

* The “Microsoft Security Essentials” forum is renamed “Virus and Malware” to better cover with the solutions discussed, and a Solutions filter is also added.

* Under the “Office” forum, there is a new version for “Office for Mobile Devices.”

* Under the “SkyDrive” forum, there is a new topic for “Contacts, People and Groups.”

Kinect Audio Smarts

Going through Amulet Devices blog and found the following interesting:-

“There are several audio “smarts” built into Microsoft’s Kinect game controller that allow it to sit next to a TV and make speech recognition possible at a range of several meters! I’ve made a couple of videos that show just such a scenario..”

The Media Center Project

Brad Mauk has developed a Windows Phone 7 app that works as a remote control for Windows Media Center.According to him:-

‘The Media Center Project is an endeavour to simplify development and remote interaction with Windows Media Center computers and Extenders.

This interaction is done through the Media Center Remote Command Listener software.  This software allows client devices to connect to Media Center to retrieve information, and provides the ability receive commands to control Media Center functionality.’
