Brand new Laptop doesn’t go to Sleep

Problem:

I have bought a brand new Lenovo X1 carbon with  Windows 11 as OS. I tried to put the device in Sleep mode but it wakes up after sometimes. I have already used:

  • POWERCFG /HIBERNATE OFF
  • turning off the screen saver and the display logon screen option

Resolution:

The POWERCFG /HIBERNATE OFF command you mentioned disables hibernation, which is a separate feature from sleep mode.

Hibernation saves the current state of your system to the hard drive and then powers off the computer, allowing you to resume your work later.

Sleep mode, on the other hand, keeps the computer in a low-power state while maintaining the current state in RAM for a quicker wake-up.

Steps to follow:

  • Open Settings
  • Click  System.
  • Click Power & battery tab
  • Under the “Power” section, click the “Screen and sleep” setting.
  • Choose the Never option to prevent the screen from turning off automatically.
  • Choose the Never option to prevent the computer from going to sleep automatically.

Restart your computer. b. While it’s starting up, repeatedly press the F8 key or Shift + F8 key. c. Select “Troubleshoot” > “Advanced options” > “Startup Settings” > “Safe Mode.”
  • A clean boot can help you identify if a third-party application is causing the issue. Here’s how to do it: a. Press Win + R, type “msconfig,” and press Enter. b. Go to the “Services” tab, check “Hide all Microsoft services,” then click “Disable all.” c. Go to the “Startup” tab and click “Open Task Manager.” d. In Task Manager, disable all startup items. e. Reboot your computer.
  • Use the built-in Check Disk utility to scan and repair disk errors. Open Command Prompt as an administrator and type chkdsk /f then follow the prompts. You might need to schedule a disk check for the next restart.
  • You should also consider hardware things also-like power supply, over heating, loose connections, memory stick, Storage disk health etc.

If a file is automatically deleting itself

Problem:

If a file is automatically deleting itself then it is a matter of concern.

Possible Fixes:

  • Firstly scan your system with latest anti-malware tool.
  • Some disk clean-up or storage management tools may automatically remove files in specific folders to free up space. So, check their settings.
