Fixing Notepad is missing

Problem: Notepad is missing in Windows 11.

Resolution:

• To fix this problem open Settings.
• Move to Apps.
• Under Optional features go to the Installed features field and search for Notepad. Uninstall it.
• Next go to Add an optional feature > View features
• Here search for Notepad.

• If you find then put a tick mark against it. Click Next.

• Finally click Install.

Restore missing Windows Update in Settings of Windows 11

Problem:

Windows update option is missing from the Settings list.

Why does it happen?

There is a group policy, called-Settings Page Visibility.This policy allows an administrator to block a given set of pages from the System Settings app. Blocked pages will not be visible in the app, and if all pages in a category are blocked the category will be hidden as well.

Resolution:

This problem can be fixed either through the Group Policy or, through the Registry edit.

Via Group Policy: This method is applicable for all versions of Windows 11 except Windows 11 Home.

Steps:

• In Start Search type Gpedit.msc to open the Group Policy.
• Now locate:

Computer Configuration → Administrative Templates → Control Panel
User Configuration → Administrative Templates → Control Panel

• Double-click the “Settings Page Visibility” policy and set it to “Not configured”. Click Ok/Apply.

• Reboot.

Via Registry edit:

• In Start Search type Regedit and hit the enter key.
• Click Yes to UAC.
• Locate:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

• Select SettingsPageVisibility on right pane of the page.
• Right click on it and delete.
• Close the registry editor.
• Reboot.

Draw Stickers on Windows 11 build 25267

There is an option called Stickers, which will allow you to add stickers to the wallpapers on the desktop. It allows you to draw stickers. This feature is enabled on Windows 11 build 25267.

Steps:

• Visit https://github.com/thebookisclosed/ViVe/releases
• Download ViVeTool v0.3.2
• Once done extract the files.

• Open Command Prompt as Admin.
• Type the following command to navigate to the ViveTool folder and press Enter:

cd c:\folder\path\ViveTool-v0.3.2

• Type the following command to enable drawing for Stickers and press Enter:

vivetool /enable /id:36165848

• Reboot.

Cursor is missing during typing

Problem:

The cursor is missing when I am typing.

Resolution:

• Right click on Start button and select Run
• In Run type main.cpl and hit the enter key.

• Under Pointer options uncheck against Hide pointer while typing.

• Click OK/Apply.
• If the above doesn’t help then click on Pointers
• Scroll down to Text Select  I beam_r

How to fix OBS Studio Recording Error

Problem: I am trying to record a video in OBS Studio. Whenever I am trying to record I get the following error:

Current video card driver does not support this NVENC version, please update your drivers.

Resolution:

Visit the support site of Nvidia to download and install the latest graphic card driver.

Visit https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx

Select from the dropdown list  to identify the appropriate driver for your NVIDIA product

Once the graphic is updated try to record again.

Enhancing PC performance

This tip helps to enhance the PC performance and also reduces overheating.

Steps to follow:

• Open Control Panel
• Select small icons as view.
• Click on Power options.
• Select Create a power plan.
• Choose High performance. Give a name if you like.
• Click Next.
• Click Change plan settings.
• Click on Advanced Power settings.
• Scroll down to PCI Express
• Expand Link State Power Management
• Set settings to Moderate Power Savings.
• Click Apply/OK.
• Next move to Processor Power Management.

Set Minimum Processor State to 80% and maximum Processor State to 90% respectively.

• Click Apply/Ok.

How can we force Windows update?

Problem:

We like to have our system fully updated. How can we force Windows update?

Resolution:

• In Start Search type  Gpedit.msc  and hit the Enter key.
• Now go to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update > Manage end user experience
• Under Options, select 4- Auto download and schedule the installation.
• Click OK/Apply.

How to Share a Folder in Windows 11

Steps to follow:

1.Open File Explorer.

2.Select the folder.

3.Right click on the folder and select Properties.

4.Click on Sharing tab.

5.Click Share.

6. Select Permission level:

• Read (default): Users can browse and open files.
• Read/Write: Users can view, open, modify, or,delete the content.

7.Click Share.

8. Choose “No, make the network that I am connected to a private network”

9.Click the Done button.

10. If you like to stop sharing then right click on shared folder. Scroll down to Give access to and choose Remove access. Finally click on Stop Sharing.

How to check all accounts from PowerShell

This tip is applicable for both Windows 10 and Windows 11.

Steps:

Open PowerShell as Administrator.

Now type the following command and hit the Enter key:

Get-LocalUser

It will display all the user accounts with details.
